“2012 International Residential Code Questions & Answers”

(Full-day )

This program addresses hundreds of the most common questions addressed by code officials and builders related to the prescriptive provisions (Chapter 1-10), including the energy provisions (of Chapter 11) of the 2012 International Residential Code.  It is based on the IRC Q & A (question & answer) books that I authored for the International Code Council. Search “greencodeknowledge” on YouTube for video clips of segments of the program.  This 2012 IRC program has been approved by the State of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) for 7 hours of continuing education hours (incl. 1-hour of energy) for both building officials and residential builder licenses.

“Introduction to the International Green Construction Code” (IgCC)

(90 minute, half-day and full-day versions)

This program provides an overview of the critical concepts of the International Green Construction Code.

The IgCC is a comprehensive code that establishes minimum requirements for sustainable construction using both prescriptive and performance-based provisions as an overlay to the International Codes, along with a framework for linking sustainability with life safety and building performance.  Search “greencodeknowledge” on YouTube for video clips of this program.

“Introduction to the National Green Building Standard, ICC-700”

(90 minute, half-day and full-day versions)

This program addresses the provisions of the Standard that are intended to provide criteria for the rating of the environmental impact of design and construction practices of residential structures.

It will focus on the rating levels for both the sites and structure, including those for the interior of the dwellings.

“Residential Building Codes for Green Homes”

(90 minute and half-day versions)

This program addresses residential building code issues related to the design and construction of green residential dwellings, including structural components, energy code, exterior envelope, alternative and innovative technology.

It will focus on how these components and systems can be designed and installed to be compatible with green building programs such as LEED For Homes and the National Green Building Standard ICC-700, and still comply with local building codes. This program does not address plumbing, electrical or HVAC.

“Fire and Life/Safety Provisions for Townhouses”

(Half-day and full-day versions)

This program addresses the provisions for fire-resistive assemblies in townhouses based on the requirements of the International Residential Code, along with significant changes that took place between the 2006 IRC and the 2012 IRC, along with background provisions related to single-family dwellings, two-family dwellings, garages, both attached and detached.

“Conventional Foundations and Framing Provisions of the International Residential Code”

(Half-day)
This program will address the minimum standards of quality, code provisions of prescriptive concrete and masonry foundations, prescriptive wood provisions and some of the non-conventional construction elements frequently used in a residential structure, such as engineered wood floor and roof trusses.

“Performing Single-Family Residential Field Inspections”

(Half-day and full-day versions)

This program addresses the requirements of Chapters 1 through Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code, which includes footings and foundations, wall/floor/roof framing of both conventional and engineered design, weather-barriers, roofing, and life/safety (means of egress, stairs, guards, handrails, smoke alarms).

“Foam Plastic Insulation Provisions of the International Residential Code”

(90 minute)

This program addresses code provisions, such as thermal protection based on flame-spread and smoke-developed ratings along with manufacturer’s installation requirements for proper installation of rigid and spray-applied closed-cell and open-cell foam plastic insulation products.  Search “greencodeknowledge” on YouTube for video clips related to this presentation.

“Treated-Wood Chemicals and Fastener Provisions of the International Residential Code”

(90 minute)

This program focuses on code issues and industry standards related to the use of chemically treated wood. It will also address history of treated woods, sill plates, sill anchors, and fasteners.

“Exterior Weather-Resistive Barrier Provisions of the International Residential Code”

(90 minute)

This program addresses the provisions of Chapter 7 of the International Residential Code that deals with exterior weather-resistant barrier materials, flashing, windows, air-barriers, and alternatives to felt papers.  Search “greencodeknowledge” on YouTube for video clips related to this program.

“Prescriptive Residential Insulation Provisions of the International Energy Conservation Code”

(90 minute)

This program addresses the energy provisions of Chapter 11 of the International Residential Code, along with types of insulation materials, vapor retarders, interior air barriers and alternatives to the code.  Search “greencodeknowledge” on YouTube for video clips related to this program.
